Violet Welch

Violet M. Welch, 97, Reading, died July 11 at 1:15 p.m. in Berks County Home-Berks Heim, Bern Township, where she had been a resident for 31/2 years. Her husband, James H. Welch, died Aug. 8, 1974.
Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late John and Lizzie (Marks) Thomas.
Welch was employed for 21 years as a nurse at St. Joseph Medical Center, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of St. PaulA�a�a��s Roman Catholic Church, the Holy Family Society and Legion of Mary.
Surviving are three sons: Harold J., Fleetwood; John T., West Wyomissing; and Byron P., Reading.
Other survivors include two sisters: Fern (Thomas) Clark, Reading; and Betty A. (Thomas) Babb, West Reading.
There is also one grandson.
Services will be this morning at 10 in Chapel of the Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale, with the Rev. Andrew A. Ulincy officiating. Friends may call from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. in the Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home Inc., 444 N. Ninth St., Reading. Contributions may be made to Alvernia College, Office of Institutional Advancement, 540 Upland Ave., Reading, PA 19611.
