Olin Dean Marberger, 65, of Laureldale, passed away on October 13, 2014 in the Reading Hospital, following a brief battle with cancer. Dean is survived by his wife and partner of 27 years, Susan V. Marberger, and his mother, Guila R. Marberger. He was recently preceded in death by his father, Carl R. Marberger. Dean was born at the St. Joseph Medical Center and raised in Bernville. He was a 1967 graduate of the Valley Forge Military Academy and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1973. He loved serving on the USS Coral Sea (CVA '42), a midway class aircraft carrier. His tour of duty included being stationed in Vietnam from 1969-1970. For his valiant service, Dean was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea) and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam). A graduate of the Coastal School of Diving, at one time he was a commercial deep sea diver. Dean also earned an 8th degree black belt and won many karate championships. He owned and operated the Boka Academy of Martial Arts from 1988 to present. He served as the Vice President of the Open Martial Arts Association for many years. He was employed by the Boscov North Department Store in security, last working in August. In addition to his bravery and strong competitive spirit, Dean will be remembered for his love of horses and his sparkling blue eyes.
