Mary R. (Haley) Painter, 88, Sinking Spring, and formerly of Reading, died Nov. 22, 2006, at 9 p.m. in ManorCare, Sinking Spring, after a short stay. She was the wife of Edward Painter, who passed away in 1987.
Born in St. Clair, Schuylkill County, on Feb. 14, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Jacob J. Haley and Cecilia L. (Wolf) Haley.
Painter worked as a bakerA�a�a��s helper at the former MooreA�a�a��s Restaurant, now Queen City Diner, in Reading, for 20 years until retiring in 1987.
She was a member of St. PaulA�a�a��s Roman Catholic Church, Reading.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan M. Painter, Reading; and Charlotte A. (Painter) Miller, Philadelphia.
Other survivors include a sister, Cecilia V. Hock, Pottsville; and a half-brother, Leo F. Haley, Pottsville; and a half-sister, Regina Haley, Pottsville.
There are also five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, Thomas J. Painter, on May 24, 2006; and Edward L. Painter, in 1997.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. PaulA�a�a��s Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Andrew A. Ulincy celebrating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Friends will be received Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
