Mary Louise (Lindenthal) Martin, formerly of Kentwood, MI devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend went home to be with her loving Heavenly Father on July 6th, 2020.
Mary was born in Cadillac, MI on August 14, 1923. She grew up in Grand Rapids where she attended Creston High School and later worked at Lear Sigler for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Mary spent much of her retirement years caring for others including her own mother Beulah until her passing in 1994 as well as her husband of 50 years, Robert until his death in 2013. Mary was also preceded in death by her daughter Judy, stepson Gary, brother Jack, sister Helen and her dear friend Betty Koehn.
Mary’s loving presence and genuine goodness will be greatly missed by her daughters Donna (Steve) Keen, Susan (James) Fitzpatrick, step children Karen Smith, Linda (Jerry) Bungard, and Bob Martin as well as 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. All will miss the wisdom and steadfast examples of virtue she so generously, yet gently imparted.
Mary loved spending time “up north” in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula walking in the woods and along the streams in quiet, peaceful appreciation of the beauty of God’s creation. She loved animals, especially dogs and cats. But more than anything she believed in the promises of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom she loved with her whole heart from the time she was a young girl, until her last breath. Mary’s life verse was Job 19: 25-26, “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand upon the earth. And after my flesh has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God.”
Mary’s family is grateful for the consistent loving and compassionate care that she received for the last 5 years of her life by the entire staff at Green Hills Manor in Shillington, PA. In addition to the wonderful staff, the warm friendships and kindness from the other residents at Green Hills gave richness to her final years.
At Mary’s retirement party a co-worker captured the essence of the woman they knew, respected and loved by saying: “we will remember Mary…for how she dedicated herself to the comfort and well-being of others.” Her family and all those who loved her say, ‘amen!”
A memorial service for Mary will be held at a future date at Maplelawn Baptist Church in Wyoming, Michigan where she was loved, worshipping with many dear friends for over 50 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassus Hospice, 1001 James Drive B34, Leesport, PA 19533 and/or to Resident Council of Heritage of GH, 200 Tranquility Lane, Shillington, PA 19607.
