Marie Elizabeth (Linderman) Herring, age 101, formerly of The Episcopal House, 50 N. 9th Street, and Cotton Street, Reading, died Monday April 26, 2010, at Berks Heim where she resided two years. Her husband of 61 years, Calvin A. Herring, died July 15, 1991. Born on the Clingan estate in Robeson Township, she was the daughter of Harold F. and Caroline M. (Yerger) Linderman. Her mother was a descendant of the Geigers of Geigertown. She was predeceased by two brothers, Howard Y. Linderman and James O. Linderman. Her elementary education was at the HohlA�a�a��s Crossing school, and the Monocacy school, both in the Birdsboro area. She left school after the eighth grade to work in the Izenlord Cigar Factory, Reading, as a bander, traveling to Reading daily by train. This building is now the site of the Canal Street Pub. She had been employed by Fine and Glass Shoe Company for 43 years, and last worked for M. & M. Knitting Mills, both in Reading, retiring in 1970. She participated in the 100th Anniversary of the Pagoda in August 9, 2008; which was also her 100th birthday. She was active in the Union Fire Company Auxiliary for many years, and she worked as a poll worker in East Reading. She was also a volunteer at the Berks Senior Center for several years and assisted in the Meals-on-Wheels program. She liked to knit, crochet, sew, and travel; and was a good cook, and a meticulous housekeeper. Her association with the Linderman Family Reunion gave her much enjoyment. Surviving are her nieces Myrtle L. Council, Louise L. Pullis, Harriet Burkhart and Gloria Laskoskie, and one nephew Glenn Linderman. Services will be Friday at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of St. LukeA�a�a��s Lutheran Church. Rev. Rebecca W. Knox will officiate. Interment will be made in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
