Kathryn "Mom Kass" L. Houck

Kathryn "Mom Kass" L. Houck, born on August 2, 1928, was a beloved figure in her community and a cherished matriarch of her family. She peacefully passed away on January 3, 2025, at Berks Heim, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.

Kathryn devoted much of her life to serving others, notably running the fire department canteen, where her dedication and service to the community were well recognized. She was admired not only for her contributions but also for the love and care she bestowed upon her family and friends throughout her life.

She is survived by her son, Scott A. Houck, husband of Sabra Houck. Kathryn’s family also includes her brother, James O. Moyer, Sr., husband of Mary Jane Moyer, along with several nephews and nieces, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Each of them carries forward the love and values she instilled.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Raymond A. Houck, three sisters: Amelia Strausser, Doris Camilli, and Marie Huff. Their memories, alongside Kathryn's, are cherished by all who knew them. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kathryn’s life at Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, located at 444 N 9th St, Reading, PA 19601. The viewing will be held on Thursday January 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
