A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph A. Braun, 81, of Robeson St. will be celebrated, Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Reading. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
Braun died July 11 at 3:25 a.m. in St. Joseph Medical Center, more than two weeks after he was assaulted by another resident in the Berks Heim Annex, officials said. An investigation is continuing.
He was the husband of Marie C. (Warfel) Braun.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Leo P. and Kathryn A. (Gibney) Braun.
Braun was employed from 1946 to 1957 as a laborer by Reading Trimmaster and from 1957 to 1973 in the laboratory by Reading Metals Co. He was last employed for 10 years as a maintenance man by the city of Reading water bureau, retiring in 1983.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Braun was a member of St. Joseph Church.
He was a past vice president of the Northmont Fellowship Association.
Braun was a past financial secretary of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 645.
He is also survived by a daughter, Carol A. (Braun) Snyder, Laureldale, and a son, James J., Kenhorst.
Other survivors include two brothers, James, Southington, Conn., and Richard, Cumru Township.
There are also five grandchildren and five great-granddaughters
