George B. Spanier, 90, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 in Berkshire Center. He is survived by his loving wife Dolores T. Spanier and to whom he married on July 9, 1949 in Reading. Born in Reading on September 18, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Julia Spanier. Mr. Spanier was a member of Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Mount Penn and was a member of the Mount Penn Senior Club. He was a 1944 graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School and was employed by WEEU Broadcasting Station in Reading. Mr. Spanier enjoyed life as a husband and father. He was an all around handyman at home, flew his own small airplane, and officiated at the Reading Stock Car Races. He and his wife Dolores enjoyed traveling. He was a devout religious man that touched many lives with his humor and wit. In addition to his wife, Mr. Spanier is survived by his children, Barbara A. Rough, wife of George Rough; Suzanne M. Young, wife of Gerald Young; George B. Spanier, husband of Carol Spanier; James A. Spanier, husband of Christine Spanier and Robert J. Spanier, husband of Cheryl Spanier along with his 13 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Catharine of Siena Chapel, 2427 Perkiomen Ave., Mount Penn, Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend Monsignor Edward R. Domin, Celebrant. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call between 10:00 am and 10:45 am at the Chapel prior to Mass.
