George J. Sfingas, 89, of Exeter Township, Reading, PA, passed away January 19, 2014. Married for 37 years, George was the husband of Linda L. (Kelchner) Sfingas. Born in Reading, George is preceded by his parents George N. Sfingas and Lillian (Baronowski) Sfingas. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his brother, Richard Sfingas, husband of Ruth (Wertz) Sfingas of Sinking Spring; his sister, Helen (Sfingas) Moser wife of Albert Moser of Pennside; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Sfingas is preceded by 4 sisters, Dorothy (Sfingas) Difacio, wife of the late Peter Difacio of Pennside ; Mary (Sfingas) Marks, wife of the late Harlen Marks of Mt. Penn; Anne (Sfingas) Yocom, wife of the late John Yocom of Flying Hills; Louise (Sfingas) Wagner, wife of the late William Wagner of Mt. Penn George proudly served in the U.S. Navy, bravely engaged battle as a Private First Class Machinist on a PC boat in WWII. He worked at Dick Brothers for 50 years where he was the Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 1989. George will be affectionately remembered for his love to travel with Linda, visiting numerous states and enjoying cruises. He particularly enjoyed trips to Hawaii.
