George A. Kerns, 76, of Reading, passed away on December 28, 2007 at Spruce Manor in West Reading, where he had been a patient for 21 months.
Born May 27, 1931 in Reading, he was the son of the late Arthur L. Kerns and Irene V. (Kantner) Kerns.
He was the husband of Jane M. (Fetterolf) Kerns.
He was a US Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War.
He worked as a Utility Assembler for the Dana Corporation in Reading for 31 years, retiring on November 1, 1986.
He was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church.
He was a life member of the American Legion and the Hampden Fire Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons: George A. Jr., Dennis L., Donald P., Luther H., and Charles A., all of Reading; two daughters: Karen Kerns of Reading, and Mary I. (Kerns) Rodriguez of Reading; twenty four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a step brother: Robert L. Kerns of Shoemakersville, and a step sister: Linda M. Madiera of Reading.
Services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 N. 9th St. Reading. Rev. Mark E. Brophy officiating. Interment with honors will be at Alsace Cemetery.
