Francis J. Hartgen, 91, of Locust Street, died May 8 at 8:50 p.m. in St. Joseph Medical Center, where he had been a patient eight days.
His wife, Miriam M. (Shenk) Hartgen, died April 29, 2000.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late William J. and Jane (Hadfield) Hartgen.
Hartgen was employed for 13 years by Textile Machine Works, Wyomissing, retiring in 1973. He had been co-owner of Francis Hosiery, Richland, Lebanon County, from 1950 until 1960.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Reading.
Hartgen was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by a daughter, Carole (Hartgen) Lopez, Reading.
Other survivors include a brother, John, Sinking Spring.
There are also four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-granddaughter.
Hartgen was predeceased by a son, William C., in 1967.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
