Elizabeth Eckert

Elizabeth G. (Heckrote) Eckert, 92, of Newmanstown, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 17, 2020 in the Mifflin Center.  Born in Amity, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Oxenford) Heckrote.  Elizabeth was the wife of Irvin R. Eckert, they shared 47 years of marriage together before his passing in 1992.  She was a Housekeeper for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and tended to Pennhurst and Wernersville State Hospital in her time.  Elizabeth enjoyed gardening, going camping, clamming, and cooking family style meals, no one went home hungry.  But most of all she loved her family and her cats, she took care of about 20 stray cats and loved them dearly.

Elizabeth is survived by her children; Terry L. Eckert, widow of Deborah of Newmanstown, Larry I. Eckert, husband of Linda of Temple, her grandson, Anthony Stewart, and 2 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her son, Eugene Eckert, and 8 siblings.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 24, 2020 in Bean Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, North 16th Street and Rockland Street, Hampden Heights at 11:00 a.m.  Celebrant Amy Landis will officiate.  Interment to follow services at Forest Hills Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508 in memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Eckert.  The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, August 24th from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, Reading is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.whelanschwartz.com.
