Eligió C Colon Jr. (70) of Reading PA, passed away on June 10, 2023 surrounded by his family. Eligio, fondly known as JR, fought his battle with diabetes for many years. Despite spending much time in the past few years in and out of the hospital, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes. He had a great ability to make others laugh.
In his career, Eligio was a welder/welder instructor at Dana Corporation for 30 years. After his retirement from Dana Corp., he became a translator for the Reading Court House. Eligio believed in serving his community and did so becoming a deacon at St. Peter’s Church.
Eligio was preceded in death by his birth mother, Ana China Cabrera, father Eligio C Colon Sr., and Stepmother Nydia E. Colón. He is survived and will be missed by his loving wife Nivia Nelly Colón, his children Venessa Colón, Eric Colón and loving wife Melissa Ventura, Rafael Rios, Isaac Rios, Jasmil Rios, and Yvette Rios. He is also survived by his grandchildren Elijah Giddens, Isaiah Giddens, Eric Colón Jr., Giselle Marie Colón, Joseline Maldonado, Jose Maldonado, Isaiah Ventura, Josiah Xavios Colón, Jayden Rios, Julius Rios and Julia Rios. His siblings Ellis Colón and wife Milagros Vega Colón, Dennis Colón and wife Adelaida Colón, and Wanda Colón Hart and husband Richard I Hart Jr. will miss his quick wit and comedic personality. Also survived by siblings Yvonne Davila, Wanda Rosa and Carmen Letty Rosa
Everyone who knew Eligio, felt his strong presence and fight for life. We all joked that he had nine lives. Whenever you spent time with him, you walked away with a memory and a story to tell for years to come.
