Dorothy Shorter

February 16, 1919 — November 7, 2006

Dorothy B. Shorter, 87, Reading, died Nov. 7, 2006, at 4:56 p.m. in her residence. She resided with her significant other, Jose A�a�A"PepeA�a�A� Garcia, for many years.

Born in Richmond, Va., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Dorothy (Crump) Booker.

Shorter was employed for 15 years as a laundry attendant by St. Joseph Medical Center.

She was a member of the Mary Alice Temple of Elks Lodge 47, Reading, St. Joseph Medical CenterA�a�a��s WomenA�a�a��s Auxiliary and the Reading Housing Residents Association for 20 years.

Surviving are a niece, Alice R. Lea; and two nephews, Joseph Lightfoot and Michael, husband of Linda Lightfoot, all of Reading.

Other survivors include seven great-nephews: Tyrone Lea, Maurice E., husband of (Diana) Lea; Christopher, husband of (Marianne) Lea; Darnell Coad; Shunta Richardson; and Aubrey and Joseph Harris; and three great-nieces: Lolita (Lea), wife of Rod Anthony; Valencia (Lea), wife of Karl Reigel; and Yolanda (Lea), wife of James Clore.

There also are great-great-nieces and nephews: Maurice, Derek, Santana, Julius, Arius, Jenna, Karly, Alex, Tyler, Mikayla, Dorothy, Maya, Matthew, Isiah, Valencia, Christian, Christopher II, Gabriel, Eygpt, India and several others.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. James Chapel Church of God, 11 S. Ninth St., with the Rev. Steve McCracken officiating. Viewing will be Saturday 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
