Donald C. Axe, 80, of Reading, passed away on January 26, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. at Manor Care, West Reading, where he had resided for three weeks.
Born January 12, 1928 in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Benjamin Axe and Mary (Landis) Axe, and husband of Pauline (Hilbert) Axe of Reading.
He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He worked as a Custodian for the United States Postal Service for 18 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked part time as a Custodian at St. Andrew's- Reading.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Dona D. (Axe) Crouse of York; Hedy E. (Axe) Houghton of Willow Street, Lancaster Co., Mary A. (Axe) Burger of Willow Street, Lancaster Co.; one step-daughter: Anna L. (Strunk) McLean of Shoemakersville; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; brothers: Norman Axe of North Carolina, Richard Axe of Lancaster; sisters: Joanne (Axe) Kauffman of Millersville, and Shirley (Axe) Kirchner of Ephrata.
Services from the Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 N. 9th St., Reading, Friday at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Michael A. Ball officiating. Interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends received from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
