Catherine M. Gallippi, 101, died at the Berkshire Center in Exeter Township, PA. Catherine was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Anthony J. Gallippi who died in 1987.
She is survived by her daughters Janet R. Gebler, of Elizabethtown, KY and Doris Gallippi Heckman, of Exeter Township, PA. She also is survived by her four grandchildren, Rosanne Donovan, Linda DeSchane, Carolyn Rettura and Nancy Rosenbaum; and seven great grandchildren, Gillian, Chelsea, Riley, Katie, Nina, Taylor and Quinn.
Catherine was born on February 27, 1914 in Nicastro, Italy and immigrated to Pittsburgh's East Liberty Larimer Avenue Village with her mother Rosa and 4 of her siblings to join her father Anthony Gaetano in 1922. Catherine's remarkable life and assimilation to American life in Pittsburgh was chronicled in a recently published book entitled "An Extraordinary Journey".
Catherine's kindnesses were bountiful and are being remembered by everyone who knew her. For nearly 102 years, she was the guiding light of generosity, the gentle hand of love and the example of compassion for all to follow.
A Mass of Christian Celebration has been scheduled for January 30th at 10 a.m. in St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Monroeville, PA. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
