Alma Zimmerman Bankes, 89, of Exeter Township, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Berks Heim. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Bellman Bankes who passed away in 1993. Together they raised four daughters. Born in Reading on May 11, 1927, Alma was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Evelyn (Waid) Zimmerman. She was a 1945 graduate of Reading High School.
She is survived by her brother, Harry Zimmerman, husband of Beverly, New Holland; and daughters, Kendra Drumm, of Canadaigua, NY; Kyle Fitzgerald of Landing, NJ; Kristen B, wife of Steven Jacoby, Birdsboro, PA; and Kelly Bankes, Portland, OR. Also surviving are grandchildren: Robert, Kourtney, Kevin, Parker, and Karley Drumm; Andrew, Daniel, and Abel Jacoby; John, Sean, and Thomas Fitzgerald; and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Zachary, Everett, Alicia, Jessica, and Brandon.
Alma worked for many years in accounting at Bortz Chocolate and other companies. She had a passion for cooking and took great pride in lovingly preparing meals for family and friends. She enjoyed cross stitch, knitting and sewing, creating many treasures for her family. She loved music and concerts, animals, especially dogs, and was an avid fan of the Eagles and Phillies.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend her memorial service on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church, 210 S 5th St, Reading PA 19602.
